As we know, sometimes it is hard to keep your New Year’s resolutions (even those common ones). We are here to help you tackle those resolutions with some simple and easy tips.
This post is all about drinking more water throughout the day. (if you need some tips on getting more active, we’ve got you covered) Good ol’ H2O is imperative for our health but sometimes busy schedules and lack of flavor make it hard to get in the necessary amount of water.
We’ve got some simple tips on staying hydrated that you can start implementing today
Set an Alarm
I know we all hate the sound of the alarm in the morning and love to hit the snooze button but setting alarms can help remind you to drink water throughout the day. Don’t want to keep a long list of alarms just to drink water? No worries, there is an app for that. Free apps like Water Coach and Aqualert send notifications to your phone to remind you to drink.
Use a water bottle that has measurement daily
Using a water bottle that has measurements makes it very easy to keep track of daily water intake. You can use a bottled that is pre measured or add the measurements on yourself! Need help figuring out how much water you need for the day? Here is a good rule of thumb: Take your body weight (in pounds), half it….that’s how many ounces of water you should be drinking each day. If you are a coffee lover, add 8 oz of water to that total for each cup of coffee you drink.
Drink Water First Thing in the Morning
When we sleep, we are slowly but surely becoming dehydrated. Sometimes that lack of hydration will even disturb our sleep! When you wake up make sure water is the very first thing you drink (water used to brush your teeth does not count haha). Set a glass of water next to your alarm. When you turn off your alarm, drink the water. After you drink water feel free to consume your favorite morning beverage but don’t forget to keep drinking water throughout the morning.
Infuse Your Water
Water is refreshing but the flavorless taste can definitely get boring. Infusing your water with citrus fruit, berries and other fresh ingredients can help spruce up the flavor and make the water a little more fun to drink. Not to mention, many citrus fruits contain healthy antioxidants (that’s a win-win).
Here are some unique, yummy and refreshing ideas for infusions:
Strawberry, lemon and basil
In 5 cups of water add:
1/2 cup strawberries stemmed and sliced, fresh or frozen
5 large fresh basil leaves torn
1 lemon thinly sliced
Mango, Raspberry, and Ginger
In 5 cups of water add:
1 mango peeled and cubed
1/2 pint raspberries
1 (2-inch) piece ginger peeled and thinly sliced
Pineapple, Coconut, and Lime
In 5 cups of water add:
1 cup pineapple chunks, fresh or frozen
1 cup coconut chunks, fresh or frozen
1 lime thinly sliced
Honeydew, Cucumber, and Mint
In 5 cups of water add:
